Hidden in the forests north of Berlin, Vogelsang was once one of the largest Soviet military settlements in East Germany. Barracks, schools, apartments, clubs, and training grounds formed a self-contained world, separated from the surrounding landscape by secrecy and military order.

For a brief period in 1959, nuclear-capable R-5M missiles were secretly stationed here, placing targets across Western Europe within reach. The quiet forest was part of a vast geography of confrontation, where everyday life existed beside weapons built for a war that never came.

When the Soviet forces withdrew in 1994, the purpose that had held this place together disappeared almost overnight. Buildings emptied, roads vanished beneath vegetation, and the forest slowly returned. What remains is a landscape in which the machinery of power has fallen silent, leaving fragments of architecture and memory to fade at their own pace.
