Yarchen Gar

Yarchen Gar is a Tibetan Buddhist community in Baiyu County, in China’s Sichuan Province. Thousands of small dwellings spread across the highland valley, home to monks and nuns who gather to study, pray and practice. The scale of the settlement gives visible form to a life organized around devotion and shared discipline.

At Yarchen Gar, spiritual practice is woven into the fabric of daily life. Prayer and study unfold within a community shaped by the landscape and by the presence of others pursuing the same path. The settlement holds this collective commitment in its physical form: a dense expanse of dwellings gathered around a life of faith.

The community’s presence speaks to the persistence of Tibetan Buddhist practice in a changing world. Yarchen Gar is a place where belief becomes a way of living together, sustained through discipline, devotion and the bonds formed within the community.
