On the northern side of Nicosia, known in Turkish as Lefkoşa, the Green Line appears in a different form. The boundary passes through the old city, where houses, streets, historic walls, and military barriers occupy the same confined space.

Here, the wall is rarely a single structure. Gates, fences, razor wire, warning signs, watchtowers, and sealed passages combine with existing buildings to form an improvised frontier. At times the boundary seems almost absorbed into the architecture of the city; at others, a few steps are enough to bring everyday life to an abrupt stop.

The proximity is unsettling. Cafés, homes, churches, and streets continue within sight of restricted zones and military positions, while abandoned spaces remain hidden immediately beyond the barriers.

This series looks at Lefkoşa from the northern side of the Green Line, where the wall exists less as a monument than as a fragmented presence woven into the city and its daily life.
