At the Margins
At the Margins documents indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities living beyond the political, cultural, and geographic centers of society. The photographs were made in remote regions around the world, among communities that have preserved distinct languages, beliefs, customs, and ways of life.
Many of these communities now face rapid change through migration, development, and the growing influence of dominant cultures. Traditions once sustained by isolation are increasingly exposed to outside pressures, altering both everyday life and the ways communities understand their place in the world.
The series focuses not only on what is disappearing, but on the people who remain. It looks at how identity is maintained, adapted, and passed on as these communities negotiate a rapidly changing world.
